Annual Bike Tour from San Francisco to Healdsburg to Raise More Than $1.2 Million for Multiple Sclerosis Research and Programs

OAKLAND, Calif. — There are only three weeks left to register for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Northern California Chapter’s annual Waves to Wine MS Bike Tour, taking place September 29 to 30 to raise more than $1.2 million for critical MS research and vital programs and services. With AT&T; Park and the Golden Gate Bridge as backdrops, thousands of cyclists participating in this fully-supported, two-day event from San Francisco to Healdsburg will come together to lend their support to the more than 20,000 Northern Californians living with MS.

This year, cyclists will kick-off the ride at AT&T; Park with a very special guest. CBS 5 weather anchor and on-air personality Roberta Gonzales will energize the crowd by serving as emcee and will ride-along with the cyclists as part of the CBS ride team. MOViN 99.7 will also help to get the crowd on its feet with music wine tour in napa that is sure to prime the cyclists for a ride into the wine country. Additionally, this year’s overnight at Sonoma Mountain Village in Rohnert Park will allow riders a well-deserved respite while enjoying great food, live music provided by Soul Inheritance, and libations, sponsored by Sonoma Vineyards and New Belgium Brewing.

“Every hour of every day, someone new is diagnosed with MS. By participating in the Waves to Wine MS Bike Tour, you’ll raise crucial funds to help support Northern Californians living with MS,” said Jessica Fewless, director of special events for the society. “Your participation will have a profound impact on those living with MS. Whether pedaling your bike, raising funds, or volunteering, Waves to Wine is truly human powered.”

Day 1: San Francisco to Rohnert Park

The route, spanning more than 150 miles of open road from San Francisco to Healdsburg, begins at AT&T; Park, with free parking in Lot A. Day 2: Rohnert Park to Healdsburg

Day two will feature 75 miles of rural countryside, from Rohnert Park to Healdsburg. Winding through the heart of the wine country, the route will culminate at Lake Sonoma at the end of Dry Creek Road. As you cross the finish line, you’ll receive a hero’s welcome complete with a celebratory feast, entertainment and prizes. After dinner, coach buses will transport you back to AT&T; Park.

Byline: Ken Glassman Motorcycle columnist Pet Carrier by T-Bags This summer while at Sturgis, I was amazed to see dozens of bikers carrying their dogs (and a few cats) on their motorcycles. I saw all kinds of contraptions jerry-rigged to motorcycles to carry these animals. I saw very small dogs poking out of backpacks strapped to the rider.

I saw other animals in duffel bags and or cardboard boxes bungeed to the passenger pillion or luggage rack; others were in nylon gym bags; and I saw one guy with a wooden board precariously perched on the top of his gas tank, with the dog leashed to it and standing up! While I am not a pet owner, nor an animal lover, I hate to see an animal put in danger by a stupid owner, who doesn’t realize that in a panic stop or…

Growing Medical Supplier Identifies Best Sales Leads by Using AccountMate CRM

Market Wire, August, 2008

Since 1980, Davis Medical Electronics, Inc.
has distributed new and refurbished medical equipment, supplies and service
throughout the United States. With two locations, the company runs a lean,
successful, customer oriented operation.

Their success is built on four founding principles: attention to details,
distributing quality products, establishing long-term customer
relationships and understanding how to make medical practices profitable.
“We give our customers a level of service and support that they can’t find
with any other medical equipment suppliers,” says Brian Hibbits, IT
Director at Davis Medical.

Although they had used AccountMate Software to run their core business unit
for the last two decades, the company had tracked their sales leads and
customer follow-ups in Excel. Naturally, this process was labor intensive
and difficult to manage as more sales representatives joined the company.
In 2006, Davis Medical strategically developed their internet business and
outgrew their current client management system. “We quickly realized that
an enhanced client and lead tracking solution was needed to manage existing
customers and post-sales marketing,” says Hibbits.

Davis Medical specifically was looking for a Customer Relationship
Management (CRM) solution that would manage company workflow, track and
assign new leads, and automate the business process on customer follow-up.
Capturing, qualifying and marketing to new prospects was essential to their
business. At the same time, the company needed to upgrade their accounting
system and wanted a financial business solution that would integrate their
lead management requirements.

To accommodate their growing business, Davis Medical upgraded their
accounting system to AccountMate for SQL, which provides the essential
business backbone they were looking for. INFOtrac for AccountMate,
AccountMate’s CRM solution, provided a complete business solution by
seamlessly integrating lead management processes and financial accounting
functions.

Prior to the INFOtrac installation, Davis Medical maintained customer
information in three separate places. One database managed the service
department, one database supported accounting functions and another
database handled new prospects. Managing these sets of customer information
was time consuming and inefficient. Using INFOtrac for AccountMate, Davis
Medical was able to consolidate three separate sets of data into one. Now,
they have a real time CRM solution with every interaction entered for their
prospects, customers and contacts in one centralized place.

With one view, employees now have quick access to current and historical
client information and “can support customers more effectively,” adds
Hibbits. Employees have immediate access to their clients’ complete history
for service, accounting and sales information cross-functionally. By
sharing all pertinent real-time information, INFOtrac for AccountMate helps
Davis Medical to standardize their internal sales and service process,
simplify company-wide communications and provide exceptional customer
service.

Using INFOtrac for AccountMate, Davis Medical has the ability to track,
forecast and manage their company’s sales activity. Every sales opportunity
is captured and funneled directly to the sales representative. By
automating sales forecasting, the company can track leads from all
marketing efforts, determine the probability of which leads will convert to
sales and establish the correct inventory requirements. INFOtrac for
AccountMate is synched up with outside sales, so the salespeople in
multiple locations have current product, pricing and customer information.

By integrating INFOtrac for AccountMate, Davis Medical Electronics, Inc.
has reached their goal of increasing the level of customer service and
support. By centralizing all real-time, pertinent customer information, any
employee can support the customer in the same manner to which they were
accustomed. So now, problems associated with company growth are seamless to
the customer

KIRKLISTON’S John Aitken, dropped from the Scots side after Tuesday’s match against England, when he went down 13-23 to David Holt, is recalled for today’s closing match of the home international series against Ireland in Jersey.

Aitken replaces Ian Campbell from Houldsworth at third in Willie Wood’s rink.

The Scots know the best they can achieve is the runners-up spot with England favourites to recapture the title after yesterday’s victory over Ireland.

Meanwhile, Uphall Station’s Sandra Steven is still on course to become the first player to retain the Scottish Women’s Singles Championship.

Steven beat Karen D’Agrosa, from Ettrick Forest, in the opening round at Ayr Northfield yesterday.

Business Wire, Jan 5, 2009

DES MOINES, Iowa — Wells Fargo & Company (NYSE:WFC) has purchased approximately $730 million in loan and lease receivables from GE Healthcare Financial Services – Equipment Finance, a unit of GE Capital. The acquired receivables from the business formerly known as HPSC, Inc. are primarily related to the financing of dental and eye care practices and equipment.

Wells Fargo Financial, a unit of Wells Fargo & Company, will manage the receivables through its operating unit Matsco, which serves the financial needs of healthcare professionals in dentistry, veterinary medicine, optometry and ophthalmology.

“We’re already a lender of choice for many healthcare professionals, and this acquisition further solidifies Matsco as the premier provider of financial services for the dental and eye care segment,” said Greg Janasko, head of the Wells Fargo Financial commercial business group.

The transaction closed Dec. 31. The sale involved receivables and customer relationships only; no facilities or employees were a part of the transaction.

“We look forward to offering these new customers the outstanding service and broad range of products that Matsco and Wells Fargo are known for,” said Allison Farey, Matsco president

Riding high: entrepreneur’s motorcycle helmets fuel company’s success

Black Enterprise, Nov, 2008 by Tamara E. Holmes

WHILE STATIONED IN JAPAN AS A U.S. NAVY PILOT IN 2002, Kerry Harris took to riding a motorcycle to better navigate the heavy traffic. But there was one problem: “It gets hot,” says Harris, a native of Canton, Ohio. “And when you start to perspire inside the helmet, the visor fogs up.” A tinkerer by nature, Harris attacked the problem, outfitting his helmet with computer fans and batteries.

The result: rather than flip up the visor to get air flowing, a mere push of a button would do the trick. Harris eventually went from recreation to inspiration, and launched IHT Technology Inc. in San Antonio. The company generated revenues of $1 million last year.

At first, Harris, 38, had no plans to start a business. But by 2004, after friends kept bringing their helmets to him to outfit, Harris recalls, “it dawned on me that I might be onto something.” So he focused on creating a wireless power system integrated into the helmet.

Startup capital consisted of personal savings and investments by family and friends. While he estimates that he spent $250,000 in the first couple of years, it was pay-as-you-go
